His original surname was Ge, his given name was Changgeng, his courtesy name was Ruhui, and his courtesy name was Baisou. He was also known as Haiqiongzi, Qiongshan Daoren, Hainan Weng, and Wuyi Sanren. His ancestral home is Minqing, Fujian Province, and he was born in Qiongzhou (now Qiongshan, Hainan). Since childhood, he was exceptionally intelligent and different from others. At the age of twelve, he passed the imperial examination as a child and was well-versed in various classics. He was also skilled in poetry, prose, calligraphy and painting. Later, because he was a chivalrous murderer, he disguised himself as a Taoist priest and fled to Wuyi. After that, he roamed the world, enduring numerous hardships, and his footprints covered the two lakes in the east of the Yangtze River, as well as the western Sichuan, Fujian and Guangdong regions. In the fifth year of the Jiading era (1212), he became a disciple of Chen Nan and obtained the secret of the Golden elixir. After Chen Nan 's death, he OFTEN had a disheveled head 跣足, wild clothes in rags, shape crazy, traveling between the mountains of Luofu, Wuyi, Longhu, Tiantai, Jinhua. In the tenth year of the Jiading era (1217), 彭耜 and Liu Yuanchang were taken as disciples. Later, he presided over the national ritual at the Yulong Palace in Hongzhou and the Ruiqing Palace on Jiugong Mountain. In the fifteenth year of the Jiading reign (1222), he went to the capital Lin 'an and "concealed his words to discuss the affairs of the world", but was obstructed. "He was arrested by the governor of the capital for being drunk and was released overnight." From then on, he devoted himself to spreading alchemy, recruited many disciples, established a diocesan organization called "Jing", which was recognized by the government and formed a formal religious order, becoming the actual founder of the Southern School of the Inner Alchemy Sect of Taoism. After his ascension, he was conferred the title of "Ziqing Zhenren" by imperial edict and was known as "Mr. Ziqing" by the world. Bai Yuchan's theory of internal elixir adheres to the tradition of the Southern School, advocating celibacy and self-cultivation, and he personally practices it, never marrying throughout his life. He centered on the cultivation of essence, energy and spirit, integrating Confucianism and Zen principles. "His mind is in harmony with the three teachings and his learning is in line with the nine schools." His thoughts had a significant influence on Taoism after the Song and Yuan Dynasties. In addition, he also "studied the Great Cave seal script, followed the great laws of various schools, and was particularly effective in the thunder method", often practicing thunder talismans and incantations to drive away evil spirits, cure diseases, and eliminate demons and monsters for people. He authored numerous works. During his lifetime, his works such as "Yulong Ji", "Shangqing Ji", and "Wuyi Ji" were published. After his death, his disciples compiled works such as "Haiqiong Dao Wen Ji" and "Haiqiong Bai Zhenren Yu Lu", which were collected in the "Daozang".
