        Liezi was listed among the imperial bandits, also known as "Weikou" or "Yukou". From the State of Zheng. During the Western Han Dynasty, Liu Xiang believed that Duke Mu of Zheng lived in his time. The "History of the Han Dynasty: Yiwen Zhi" stated that he preceded Zhuangzi. In the Tang Dynasty, Cheng Xuanying's "Zhuangzi Shu" and Liu Zongyuan's "Bian Liezi" both claimed that he was contemporary with Duke Ru of Zheng. There are many legends about it recorded in Zhuangzi. Later, he was deified by Taoism. The sixth volume of "Xianjian" states that he was from Zheng and lived in Zhengpu for forty years. He was an ignorant person. He sought knowledge from Guan Yinzi and studied under Hu Qiuzi. Later, he learned from Laoshangshi and Zhi Bogaozi, following in their footsteps. It takes nine years before one can ride the wind. In the second month of the first year of the Tianbao era of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang (742), he was conferred the title of "Chongxu Zhenren". It is said that he authored the book "Liezi", which was officially called "Chongxu Zhenjing". Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty bestowed upon him the title of "Zhi Xu Guan Miao Zhen Jun".
